Here @ The Pop Culture Cantina, fantasy and reality blur on a regular basis! Even blogmaster DC Hampton Jacobs has trouble separating what's real from what's not real about The Archies. Let's lay it on the line once and for all: Archie and his friends are purely fictional!  Could there be anyone who thinks otherwise?

But yes, there was a studio group that went by the name The Archies back in the late 1960s. That group recorded several bonafide hit records, one or two of which you may know about. Billboard's music archive publications log both charting singles and albums from 1968 to 1970.

ARCHIES RARITIES PRODUCED FOR THE
KIRSHNER RECORDS LABEL BETWEEN
1989 AND 1991.

DC Hampton Jacobs integrated all of those recordings into his Pop Archie narratives. However, most of the original designs for Archies album covers were, in his words, drabsville! "Dan DeCarlo's group drawing for the first album is iconic, and deservedly so," he notes, "but the other covers are really nothing to write home about." He decided to commission new designs from his Cantina staff (which, BTW, is just as imaginary as Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Reggie).

So which is better: The new look or the old look? It's a subjective judgment; but let's give Stuffed Animal's colorful handiwork the benefit of the doubt! You can judge the original album designs by purchasing The Archies: The Complete Albums Collection, a compact disc box set collection released in July 2016.

WTF? A real Archies box set???
Once again, fantasy blends with reality . . .
