ARCHIE COUNTRY!
The Archies is a musical concept with several manifestations. The earliest was a comic book send-up of The Monkees that first appeared in April of 1967. The second was a studio group brought to animated life by Filmation Studios in September of 1968. Except for belated Christmas album sessions in 2008, that group existed for barely four years: 1968-72. However, fueled by popularity of the cartoon series, the comic strip Archies persevere to this day.
Now dig, if you will, The Archies as depicted here @ Pop Culture Cantina. Our version of the band is based on the late '60s/early '70s studio group but its recording career was launched twenty years later. They're not teenagers, they're not novices and they are definitely not Bubblegum rockers! The members' musical tastes are eclectic, ranging from Jazz to Country to Latin Rock to vintage Disco; stylistically, they seem to be everywhere at once. However, Archie is determined to shepherd them toward his favorite sound: Classic Soul music, which ironically was in its heyday when the group was conceived.
The Archies cut masters for their own record label and arrange, produce and write original music; even so, they are masterful interpreters of Rock and Pop standards, and that's what they perform most of the time. They not only track songs in English but also in Spanish, French, Italian, Swedish, Japanese and Korean. The singles and albums listed here are imaginary except where noted with an asterisk. That handful of releases actually exists, and those records scored chart hits for the studio group. The listed song titles are also genuine; most of them will be familiar to the average vintage vinyl collector.

Listen with your mind's ear to kick-ass remakes of golden oldies culled from America's rich Rock 'n' Roll Song Book! Do you dig The Beatles? Yeah, you do! And The Allman Brothers? Sure. Let's show some love for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Queen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones, too! Now, you may never judge The Archies worthy of such esteemed company but the (totally! imaginary!) musical legacy left by the world's greatest cartoon band is still liable to blow your mind and rock your world. The Archies scored twelve Number One singles and twenty-five Top Ten
singles outside the United States with titles that differed from their
stateside releases. Asian releases appeared on the Liberty label. European releases were marketed by Pathé Records. The Australian Archie label distributed Archies product "down under" and the Latin-American pressings all carry the Discos Fuentes logo. Without logging chart positions, numerous DISQUE D'OR album tracks including "House Of Gold", "Can't Escape From You, Baby", "Bring A Little Lovin'", "Maryann" and "Strange World" will rate significant airplay in France between 2031 and 2033. A pair of live recordings, "Jim Dandy" and "Trapped In The Prison Of Love," were hits on the Asian continent during the fall of 2014 but neither was ever released as a single. Both songs were performed in Korean.
In the 22nd century, The Archies will posthumously score several best-selling catalog albums and dozens of additional chart singles including (at least) three more Number Ones! The hits will come from various parts of the globe: North America embraces "Billy Sunshine," a Betty Cooper solo rarity issued under The Archies' name. Another showcase for Betty, "Knowing Me, Knowing You" sells big in Europe, South America, and Africa. "Titty Twister", led by Jughead, is a smash in Europe and Australia. Kevin Keller's excellent vocals on "St. Kevin, Apostrophe" results in an Asian chart-topper. These last two titles will also become Number One Country singles; they are original songs written by members of the band.
